Did you and your family celebrate Halloween when you were a child?
It was my friend Jayne's birthday on the 30th of October, so she used to have a combined birthday/Halloween party on the 31st.
She lived next door to us, and the party was always held in her garage. Her mother [Betty] had this old tin bath which she used to fetch out every year and we'd have ducking apple in it. She always put a piece of soap in with the apples too...as a booby prize! I got that piece of soap a few times over the years LOL.
Her mother would decorate the garage too, with broomsticks and hollowed out swedes/turnips with candles in them. I can still remember that smell of burnt swede...even now!
Money was scarce, so we all used to dress up as witches using black bin liners for dresses!
Of course, there would be food and drink too. Usually sandwiches, pop/soda and hot soup...nothing fancy, but it was a feast to us ;D
My mother would also carve swedes for us to put candles in, but as I got older we carved them together.
How about you? Do you have any fond childhood memories of Halloween?

Well, we always went trick or treating. We also had to make costumes out of whatever we had at home. The most we bought was the fake blood makeup. I was a tom boy so usually dressed up in some of dad's old Army fatigues and bloodied my face up. Even after I was to "old" to trick or treat, I would dress up to hand out the candy.
I remember once when my older sister was either a Junior or Senior in Highschool, she was going around with a group of her friends. I was invited along so that they would have an excuse to be trick or treating. They were all watching me...lol. I don't think I got much candy that night. lol
Also, when she was in High School the band parents would have a Halloween party and hayride for all the families. Games, food, parents dressed up to scare the bejeebers out of kids on the hayride. I remember it as a lot of fun.

My family never really celebrated anything in a big way when I was a kid. I make up for it now though!! I remember my Mam back tatting my hair to epic proportions and covering in, along with my face, in talc and silver glitter. Me and my little brother would each carve a turnip and my Dad would take us around the doors of family and friends trick or treating. We would have mini parties at school and my biggest memory from those was making witches and ghosts with card and sweet wrappers, which I loved doing. They also made us sing a song called "The Witches of Halloween" or some such.
It went
We're witches of halloween, the ugliest you've ever seen, We fly around at night, and give you such a fright!!!!! We're witches of halloween.
Something about flying at your windows came next, accompanied by scary OOOHHHH noises. Quite scary when you're 5..lol..
