^^^An example^^^
I pinched this idea off another forum [thanks hedge!] and I've slightly modified it for Halloween. Once made, it should last for most of the evening ~ if you fetch it out last minute ;D
You will need:
2 glass bowls with a size difference of 2 inches [diameter]
Masking tape
Water
A little orange or green food colouring [optional]
Fillers: Tiny plastic spiders, bats, skeletons, eyeballs, dried/fresh flowers/autumn leaves, fresh herbs, slices of fruit, nuts, pumpkin seeds, etc.
1. Place a few of your chosen fillers on the bottom of the larger bowl. Place the smaller bowl in the larger bowl, on top of the flowers. Fill the space between the bowls, slowly, with the coloured water.
2. Using a skewer to push them down into the water, add the rest of your chosen fillers in the space around the bowl. Secure the smaller bowl in the larger bowl using the masking tape. Wrap the tape tightly across the top of the bowls, making sure that the smaller bowl is centered.
3. Freeze for at least 4 hours, or overnight. Remove from freezer and let stand for 5 minutes. Gently pull smaller bowl and remove your ice bowl from larger bowl. Put the completed ice bowl in the freezer until you are ready to use it.
You can use these ice bowls to serve; salad, punch, pieces of fruit, vegetables for dipping, ice cubes...whatever you want!
It might be a good idea to place it onto a large plate that's been covered with something absorbent; e.g. a tea towel, or layers of kitchen roll. You can disguise the towel/kitchen roll by covering it with some ivy leaves, or more plastic/rubber halloween decorations.
This is also great for other seasons. Just change the type of flower and greenery to fit the season!
*A word of warning* Be watchful when serving food/drink out of the bowl, in case some of the fillers escape into the food as the bowl starts to defrost...could pose a choking hazzard. Highly unlikely, but beware anyway! Probably best suited to use at an all adults party.
